The Best Way To Reset A Tomtom

By Chris Green

As of 2010, buyers can buy TomTom navigational devices and programs for their cars, personal digital assistants, and cellphones. Like most electronic equipment, TomTom GPS units require an occasional soft-reset to clear the memory and enable faster processing speed. There are an array of TomTom models, however you can reset them all by following a straightforward process.

Like all electronic devices that rely on a pc chip, Tom-tom satellite navigation devices can occasionally freeze or stop functioning accurately and you'll need to reset the device to have it working again. Some TomTom devices include a dedicated reset button but others supply this function with the chief "On/Off" button.

Before resetting the apparatus, charge the TomTom for at least two hours to assure the battery is at full power. After recharging the TomTom, assess the bottom of the unit's casing for the tiny "Reset" button -- if you cannot find one it means you'll have to make use of the "On/Off" button to do the reset. Both reset methods are square and require significantly less than one minute to undertake.

In many cases, in case your TomTom will not start right, will not switch off or has stopped reacting, the problem will be solved by a full hardware reset of the unit. The reset button on the tom-tom system is located on the upper back of the device. Join the TomTom to its power and cost the apparatus for at least two hours.

Resetting it could solve problems such as the machine failing to respond. Press to release and remove the SD memory card from the slot to the underside of the TomTom system. Skip this in case your TomTom doesn't have an SD card.

Press the small "Reset" button with a straightened paperclip, toothpick or even a similar implement and hold the button down for 20 seconds. The TomTom will automatically power down through the reset. Power the TomTom insert your SD card and back on.

Drive and hold the "On/Off" button together with the TomTom for five seconds to power on the apparatus and complete the reset process. Difficulties using a GPS device can be a trying and time-wasting event especially in unfamiliar areas. TomTom makes several GPS models that offer ease of use and customizable functions. Connect your TomTom device for the pc using the included USB cable. The TomTom Home program will automatically establish and provide updates to your own existing maps throughout the TomTom Map Share module.
