Selecting Games For Wii U Virtual Console

By Tanisha Berg

The Wii U offers a wide variety of games. However there will be occasions where you think of older titles. These are the favourites people remember and want to share. However it is worth noting that there are games for Wii U virtual console available from a wide variety of older gaming devices.

As the name suggests there is no need to get an additional machine in order to download these onto your Wii U. There are a list of titles available from throughout the couple of decades that Nintendo have been producing titles. What you choose largely depends on your personal preference, the type of console you may have owned before or you may want to gamble and try out a classic everyone has raved about that may have been before your time so that you can see what all the fuss is about!

As with movies games you can choose from a variety of genres. Nintendo have generally been seen as the more family friendly console. Therefore a lot of the time when people think of their games they tend to think of platformers featuring colourful characters that are not particularly offensive.

After the NES came the Super Nintendo. Many gaming aficionados believe the 16 bit era produced some of the finest games in what is still a relatively young artform. While the graphics may not be as advanced as the latest consoles this represented an evolution of pick up and play gaming.

One of the best examples of this is Street Fighter 2 Turbo. While there were beat em up before and since this was the one that many consider to be the founder of this particular genre and established many of its conventions such as the grand special moves and quirky character celebrations at the end of the fight. As the name suggests it is slick and fast paced but it is also exciting, colourful and features some of the most distinctive characters to have graced the 2D arena.

There are also titles originally designed for the handheld consoles available. As with the NES and SNES a lot of the big name characters are available as well as numerous original titles that solely came out through the handheld consoles. A good example of this are the Wario series of games that offered gamers the chance to be the bad guy for a change!

The cost of the consoles depends on the age of the machine. Therefore a title you download from the Super Nintendo will be a bit more expensive than one that you download from the NES. If you previously downloaded titles on the Wii virtual console then you can also transfer them on to the Wii U.

As stated before you can get a diverse range of titles. It is worth looking online for reviews from people who have played games in the past. You can also look online for up to date information on the range of titles available and any future releases for the virtual console.
