Hammering It Down Your Memory With Active Directory Password Reminder

By Katina Brady

Its never easy to manage all the information that comes in and out of the company at a daily basis. That is why big companies don't do this manually. Systems are developed to facilitate the smooth flow of monitoring including the log in details that every worker use when they access data for work.

One of the information managed by a business is the personal data of its employees. As their employer, the business has a professional responsibility to ensure that none of their information is leaked outside the business premise. Several mechanisms are devised to facilitate this. One of them is the active directory password reminder.

This has a simple task, but one that is often ignored by the staff. It reminds everyone of the need to change their passwords as its expiration draws close. Theres a separate team handling the inputting of data on the system which includes the dates when certain personnel should receive the reminders.

The system administrators have the power to indicate how many times are you supposed to receive the message to make sure that you do't forget. They can also send it both by your email or through your mobile number. The reminders will only stop once you have registered a new one.

Also, the scheduling of the change can vary. It could be set so that all with secretarial positions will have to make the change before this date and that. High ranking officials can also have a different date set for them.

Company heads understand the constant risk that is always posed by hackers all over the web. One carelessness on the part of the guys who maintains the company's data security and millions can be lost. Changing of passwords may sound like not a very good solution to address the issue of data theft but it can very well encourage everyone to be cautious.

The demand for this type of system has increased over time because of the number of employees who don't seem to see the importance of being responsible with their company information. When verbal reminders don't work, the need to organize a separate team that will handle reminding them is seen to be more effective. And indeed it is.

Perhaps you haven't considered the gravity of care that you need to place on the data, especially the personal ones that are recorded on the company's database. But if you see the repercussions, you will understand why it has to be protected at all cost. It doesn't matter what position you are holding. As long as you are working within the company you have the role to protect its interest and vice versa.

Be responsible with your data and work along with the admin. If you are used to ignoring those minor reminders on the need to change your password, now is the time to break the habit. Don't wait for something compromising to happen before you act.
